So, eye make-up update

(Since when did I get into all of this, anyway? Clue, Ken...wasn't I the tomboy back in the day?? WTF? When did I start giving a shit about all of this?)

Anyhow...

The verdict seems to be:

For everyday wear, I seem to do best with a sand/copper/cream combination.

Next best everyday was the old set of pinks/roses I've kept a compact of ever since HS when I realized there were indeed some places you should wear make-up to, whether you wanted to or not.

For evening/make my eyes look as obvious as possible (without looking stupid) wear, the best combo seems to be a silver-blue/greenish denim blue/teal combo. I can get away with just about any blue-green combo, actually, as long as I keep the upper brow in a light white, pink-white, or blue/green white.

Blues make me look like I'm back in the 80's, although they do make my eyes pop out *g*. The plums and yellow greens that are 'recommended' for my eye color? Doesn't matter how I put it on, or how light--it just makes my eyes look bruised. Probably because they're already 'bruised' looking that way without make-up.

R, you'll be glad to know that just about every color in that compact you sent me passed muster when I'd ask folks how I looked--even the dark brown and blue.

Now, here's the bad news. My blurry eyes? Seem to be a result of the eyepowder. Today, I'm back to using the usual treatment, which is just the foundation on my lids to hide the raccoon markings and nothing else. Likewise, over the weekend, I had a lot less problems with my eyes blurring out because I wasn't using make-up at all (In fact, I thought they had finally cleared). So I'll be going back to 'normal' for this week and see if my eyes clear up. If they do...then...I dunno. Any suggestions?

Just for reference, Cover Girl products (which is what the foundation is), seem to do me less harm--my eyes weren't as bad on those days. (Does this make me a cheap date?)

So...yeah. My choices seem to be no make-up, or be blurry. :/

Don't use powder shadows, and make sure your mascara isn't dropping gunk into your eyes. Also, when blending, stay far enough away from the inner corner of your eyes so that you can't absently rub makeup into them if you happen to rub your eye during the day.

I think it's Revlon that does a nice set of four cream shadows in complementary colours. I've used those for years and had no problems until recently, and I'm sure this issue is a mascara one and not a shadow one. But powder shadows, bad.

*nods* yeah. I've learned not to rub as much now that I wear contacts, but I'll still mess with the tear duct corner on occasion.

Revlon? Cool. I'll take a look at them, then. Because I'd rather not go through this whole 'oh hey, my eyes are so blurry I can't even read something three inches from my face' thing again. It makes me grouchy and unhappy and stuff. Also: headaches.

Cover Girl used to make a clear-gel mascara that I did fine with (and little to no gunk to worry about), but it seems to have gone out of production. :/

PS--Thank you. :)

Cream shadows are the way to go, srsly. Also never ever ever line the inner rim of your lower lids with anything, no matter how hypoallergenic it says it is. You're probably much too sensible ever to have done that, but I know a lot of people who do it all the time.

Re. mascara: I've had good results with Lash Architect mascara from L'Oreal...in fact L'Oreal cosmetics in general except the execrable "Telescopic" mascara, which you should avoid. I remember that clear gel mascara too; look around, someone else might've started making one.

You're very welcome. I am a makeup addict.

Since you realized you were beautiful, and deserved to be seen as such. And yes, I'm hell of glad you have done, love, because you are, and you do!

And Tomboys wear makeup too. *Raises hand in witness*

You may want to get a good base or primer (Not the same as foundation).

But also, it just may be the makeup's got too much stuff in it that you can't tolerate.

Yeah. I've looked but haven't been able to suss out where/what they are in regards to shopping. Maybe I need to suck it up and go to a dept. store for those.

It's likely. I'm allergic to dust to begin with, and ultimately, powdered eye shadow is, at base level, like colored dust. And I already skirt that problem every day as is with my job, so it wouldn't take much for my eyes to go 'okay, bitch, that's it, we've had enough!' and act up.

Heh. WAAAAAAAY back in the mists of time (circa late 70's), somewhere in the (not quite) depths of New Jersey, one of my few friends there taught me the 'put it on your inner rim' trick.

It hurt like hell (wood splinters and allergic reaction), and I never really took to the technique because of that. I don't usually line the bottom lids at all, anyway. Makes me look even more like a raccoon than my own thin skin does. :)

*makes a note of that* I might gvae that a try then...or talk to the Clinique folks since they're more likely to have a hypoallergenic solution than the standard dept/drug store. We'll see. I just need something that'll shape my lashes a little better, really. Which really requires more the use of a curler (ouch, ew) than mascara.
