So, it's probably only impressive to me...

Once again self-teaching myself on Paint Shop Pro X. Wanted to make a rooster icon for my LJ, but it's a little too something to shrink it, I think. Still, kinda a cool banner thing, and it gave me more practice in making clean layer work.

Three layers--the granite background and the Kanjii I created myself. The rooster was taken from a random picture off of Yahoo.

What does the kanjii say? Do you use a pen and tablet for that kind of work? This looks cool overall--I guess you just need a simpler rooster design, something with fewer colors and details. More graphic. :D

I love my Paintshop Pro. Just upgraded to v. 11, which has some really cool new effects.

'Rooster' in Japapese, at least according to the old, old dictionary I have. According to my kanji guide book though, it translates as 'Male Bird'.

So...yeah. Heh.

Usually, Chinese Kanji is used, (Since it is, after all, the Chinese horoscope), but I couldn't find a clean enough sample to feel confortable enough with sussing out how the kanji itself was written.

This time I hand drew the kanji, then stuck it under the clear sheet of my Wacom pad and traced over it to get it on screen. Then cheated and used one of the graphic effects from Paint Shot to get the undershadows. *g*

Yeah. I had the older Painthouse products (3 and 4) since 2000 when I got the PC new as an Xmas present. 'X' I just recently got, and it combines just about everything except the range of art tools that I use, so I wound up deleting all but my Painter classic programs once I got X installed. On this old PC, it's a memory hog, but I love it, so the delays between commands is worth it.
