My note...

To Whom it May Concern:

You don't know me, and I don't know you.

This is probably why I resent you; although I feel you are free to believe what you want, and yes, even to teach it to your own children, I do not agree that it also gives you the right to censor me in order to do the job you should be doing as a parent and/or concerned adult.

I probably won't get suspended--not unless horror stories and folklore become the next target, but it still bothers me that you feel the need to go looking for certain things and then 'taking down' anyone who expresses an interest in them, no matter their reasons for being interested.

In short, your 'crusade' is no different than the ones in the past--ones, that if you looked into the history of the source of your own convictions, would also prove to have victims of such wide-spread, blind, and hypocritical practices.

If you want your children to be safe, then by all means, protect them. Protect them by making sure they, as the individuals they are, are not exposed to what you find offensive, or if they are, that they understand why such things are offensive. Or dangerous, damaging and even in some cases, deadly. Teach them the difference between reality and fiction, consent and abuse, and good morals and dogma.

But, most importantly (and what will solve the 'problem' a lot more thoroughly than repeated attacks on others), be there for them. With them. Be their voice, mind and conscience. But be there. Right there. Not chasing down people who have already chosen their life path, whether good or bad by your definition. Not on the political platforms far from home, run by people, who quite honestly, don't really give a shit about you and your cause in any terms but how it will prop them up to back it. You children will learn nothing from you that way, except how to be a bully and how to look down on people they've never met.

Be there, where you can hold their hand, see where they walk, and pick them up before they ever even reach whatever traps and harm you see waiting for them. If you're truly doing this for the children, then that's how it's done. Because it's never done right when you leave it to law, government and strangers.

I don't need you to tell me what's right or wrong--I'm grown up and came to terms with all of that ages ago. I don't need you to tell me if my soul is saved or damned--that's between me and my maker, no matter what path you ask. You don't know. You aren't that entity, and it's none of your business anyway. Even the bible says that.

I do my part to warn off the children of the world from things I may say or do, even though it isn't my responsibility to do so. So do yours--do what you are leaving to the responsibility of others and go raise your children instead of this. Guaranteed in the long run...you're more likely to succeed.

Good letter.

I don't like pedophiles. Well, aside from the one I know and love. And I have a hard time with it. A hard time with it, and have a really hard time with his criminal record and my relationship to him and his family. But that's another topic.

I wish, people who go after pedophiles would really take a good hard look at who has access to their kids RIGHT NOW and why.

My issue is that they are purging wholesale, with no regard to actual content. Can't remember where I saw it, but a Nabokov read-along book discussion group was purged because the title of the book in question, "Lolita", was in the community name. That's censorship, pure and simple. At least someone from LJ staff should check out the groups in question before suspending them.

In the post before this, I think I put up a link to a post keeping track of what's going on. ON there are further links, including a few responses from LJ/Six Apart as to why they're just deleting.

What it boils down to is 'someone complained, and rather than make a big stink, we just deleted the indicated journals'. Basically, they're afraid of legal action being brought down on them by way of 'guilt by association' and being permissive, blahblahblah and so forth. They of course go on in the repsonses to tell folks how to retrieve posts and info from the 'permanently suspended' accounts, but tey're really not interested in taking more responsibility than that for anything.

also, re-instated my GJ journal.

...There are absolutely NO Bon Jovi comms....none. Zip. Ziltch. Nada.

This needs to be remedied.

Clearly this is a void you need to remedy. Bon Jovi for everyone!

I dunno if I'll move anywhere else. I can't figure out MySpace and all the blinky ads drive me b@t$hit. Also, if I can't remember to check my secondary gmail account for like months at a time, I can't be counted on to update more than one journal at a time. And, things like this won't be isolated to LJ...this will eventually happen to all social networking sites.

Yeah, but I suck at comm ownership and maintenance. Also...comms need peoples, or they're, you know, kinda useless.

GJ is basically LJ under a different name and ownership (and less shiny premade layouts). The TOS is also a little more lenient and geared in favor of users rather than special interest groups. Also; still free. The only snags I've found so far is that the 'extra' picture hosting service will shut your access down if you post snything other than personal photos on their gallery (although the journals themselves still have a gallery you can post to without that problem).

That, and if you go inactive for too long, thier icon server will eat your icons (so back those up on a disk or store them someplace else and use the URL option rather than the upload one.). The upside to that is that you can have up to 2000 icons.

...I want to yoink that icon.

*puppy eyes*

Feel free. Purty, innit? I got it from a mass icon dump somewhere. The credit, if there is any, is in my user info.

Yes, yes it is purty. *g*

Personal opinion is that that was the stage of his life he looked the best in. Right now is second best.

Much thanks and credit will be given, both here and at GJ. ^^

If I could go back in time, I would find "Keep The Faith"/"These Days" Jon and put him in my pocket. Rawr!
