My note...
May. 30th, 2007 11:50 amTo Whom it May Concern:
You don't know me, and I don't know you.
This is probably why I resent you; although I feel you are free to believe what you want, and yes, even to teach it to your own children, I do not agree that it also gives you the right to censor me in order to do the job you should be doing as a parent and/or concerned adult.
I probably won't get suspended--not unless horror stories and folklore become the next target, but it still bothers me that you feel the need to go looking for certain things and then 'taking down' anyone who expresses an interest in them, no matter their reasons for being interested.
In short, your 'crusade' is no different than the ones in the past--ones, that if you looked into the history of the source of your own convictions, would also prove to have victims of such wide-spread, blind, and hypocritical practices.
If you want your children to be safe, then by all means, protect them. Protect them by making sure they, as the individuals they are, are not exposed to what you find offensive, or if they are, that they understand why such things are offensive. Or dangerous, damaging and even in some cases, deadly. Teach them the difference between reality and fiction, consent and abuse, and good morals and dogma.
But, most importantly (and what will solve the 'problem' a lot more thoroughly than repeated attacks on others), be there for them. With them. Be their voice, mind and conscience. But be there. Right there. Not chasing down people who have already chosen their life path, whether good or bad by your definition. Not on the political platforms far from home, run by people, who quite honestly, don't really give a shit about you and your cause in any terms but how it will prop them up to back it. You children will learn nothing from you that way, except how to be a bully and how to look down on people they've never met.
Be there, where you can hold their hand, see where they walk, and pick them up before they ever even reach whatever traps and harm you see waiting for them. If you're truly doing this for the children, then that's how it's done. Because it's never done right when you leave it to law, government and strangers.
I don't need you to tell me what's right or wrong--I'm grown up and came to terms with all of that ages ago. I don't need you to tell me if my soul is saved or damned--that's between me and my maker, no matter what path you ask. You don't know. You aren't that entity, and it's none of your business anyway. Even the bible says that.
I do my part to warn off the children of the world from things I may say or do, even though it isn't my responsibility to do so. So do yours--do what you are leaving to the responsibility of others and go raise your children instead of this. Guaranteed in the long run...you're more likely to succeed.
