New Jersey

I lived my first 12 years there. Been to all the places that have been taken apart by Sandy--have more memories than you can shake a stick at, too.

Been watching the news. Haven't been really back there since '82, but even so, I still recognized what was left, especially around Seaside Heights where I spent a lot of my summer time, on the boardwalk, on the beach, in the bay foot-shuffling for flounder (and getting terrified by the mere thought of horseshoe crabs...).

It hurts to see; but I know my former state-mates are a strong bunch. They'll make it through. New Jersey people are tough, opinionated, stubborn, resourceful and know when to stick together.

I'll be doing what I can to help out my place of birth. I'm hoping others will as well.

Take care, guys, be strong. I'm thinking of you.

OMGWTF THERE'S WHITE SHIT ON THE GROUND!!!! AND IT'S STILL FALLING FROM THE SKYYYYYYYYYYYY

...this concludes my obligatory south-westerner freak-out over Snow In Texas. You all can go back to sleep, now.

(And now I'll make battle plans for getting to work without finding every patch of ice on the road XD).

So...who-ever's in charge of things like Murphy's Law likes to laugh at me.

Either that, or the guys at my job just don't understand the concept of 'make sure the lock is locked'.

...Because today was the fourth time in the past six months that I've walked in on the third of three guys using the bathroom (the bathrooms by receiving are unisex, so there's no telling who'll be in there).

....good thing I have a habit of looking up when I go into the bathroom. XD

Dudes, c'mon...it's a simple little button! Takes one second to push! O.o

Nose doesn't really hurt anymore.

Clean up from being gone for one and a half days wasn't too bad (and that was with a new delivery policy in place. Damn paperwork).

They fixed my washer.

And my department director has told me I'm not allowed to take any more two week vacations. Ever. (Dude, that's the one thing that would actually push me into doing it again much, much sooner than in another five years or so...I hope you were joking. It's hard to tell with him.).

ETA: Wow, who's this jackass down here? *points to first reply* Should I report him?
ETA 2: Nevermind, reported and banned. :) (also, don't click on the links, guys, just in case).

Yay!

I can go back to work tomorrow! WHOOT!

Okay, yes, I know, I'm insane. :P

*Takes three points in the negative trait 'Impatient'*

Yay! They put up chapter 103 of FMA...and I'm already done reading it. *frowny face*

Waiting for three different people to call me back about what doctor to go to and so I can do all the 'safety' Q&A crap they need for the paper work.

Chances are, the washer machine guy won't be here until tomorrow. After I go back to work. (Assuming a doctor can see me today).

...feh.

*Adds three more points*

So...I read what was available online--102 chapters. Close to endgame but not quite. Argh. Can we please get to the serious (well, even more serious) bad guy ass-kicking now?

My overall comment at this point is that I hope someone bludgeons Truth over the head with a spiked happy stick.

Not even worried about the other baddies. I just want Truth hurt.

Ohwait, Truth tends to hurt anyway.

(I know, I know--BAD PUN. Leave me alone; I've fried my brain on this stuff today. :P )

In other news, the swelling is mostly gone, and I've managed to pull my own nose back into position and have it stay that way. Most of the pain is gone now, too. By the time they get that stupid doc appointment set up, it's going to be like nothing happened. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

Also; my rental washer died during the first wash cycle and is currently off and full of water. Guess what I'll be doing on the rest of my free time tomorrow...bah. :/

I suspect most of you already saw this, but for those of you who are interested in WoW and don't follow the comms (or of course missed Blizzcon on Friday), have a look, if you don't mind being spoilered, that is. :)

And if anyone wants to buy me a new graphics card and/or larger memory card for my 5 year old Lenovo so I can play the game when the Xpac releases, well, now you know what to get me for the holidays.

(Kidding!)

More under here...first several paragraphs are also spoilers. Scroll to second bolded sentence to get past them. )

and not as depressed as I have been for a while now.

Mind you, that's not keeping me from wasting my time by surfing the 'net intead of paying bills, dusting the apartment, making a grocery list, inking a picture, or even playing WoW, but at least when I think about doing these other things, I'm going, 'in a minute' rather than 'blah yuck, what, sure, nevermind...'

(I know, that didn't make a lot of sense.

Anyhow:

It's stuff )

I started writing a post in my head during work that I was going to put up on the journal.

Decided about halfway through the inner monologue that it was pretty much whiny emo-fest material shit nobody needed to see.

Feel a little better now, but not great. General gist?

Not happy with my life. Mostly having to do with 'wah, I have no one' (sparked by 'if I can't take care of myself, especially later in life, there's no one to pick up the slack, so I'm pretty much fucked, thanks.').

My eye is infected again, and I don't want this being a yearly thing. And it's pissing me off that my vision has gone south. Again.

I am tired. Physically and emotionally. And I really don't know if/when I'm going to get a break from it.

My three day weekend was pretty much undone half an hour into work, since all the stuff that supposedly wasn't going to show up on Friday, did. Plus a full compliment of shit for today, plus even more stuff right when I thought I could finally relax an hour before my shift was supposed to end.

I need a hug and a long break from life. (Then again, who doesn't?)

...okay, I whined anyway. Sorry about that.

From what I can tell, the problem is with my antivirus--chunks of it have apparently decided to go the way of the dodo. The good (somewhat) news is that I was due for my yearly upgrade/renewal anyway and they handle it by pretty much replacing the whole program for you with the newest version as part of the deal.

So once the old program finishes its scan (or I shut the computer off in a fit of frustration), I'll proceed with the install of the newest version. Which, hopefully, will fix the apparent problem (which has also started to include the firewall portion of the program not functioning).

Update...

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but after three hours I turned the lappy on again, and this time it didn't have too much problem with letting me into email (although it tried to tell me I didn't have enough memory to run the office assistant, even though I'm still at 36% open room on the disk drive).

Ran disc clean and then defrag a few times in a row as suggested by a computer geek work friend, and now Hal seems to be running ok (even though I run all that stuff every weekend...). There hasn't been any problems since the clean up, and everything is running at the normal 'fast' speed, so I'm not sure what's up. I am wondering if I should take it in to Frys this weekend or something anyway for a diagnostic.

Anyway, so at least for now, it looks like the computer scare is over. We'll see what happens when I have to shut it down and take it home in an hour, I guess.

If anyone has any idea as to what may have happened, let me know.

My laptop is acting funny. It's starting to 'lock up' when I turn it on and get past the sign in screen. This last time when I turned it off, it took 20 minutes to shut everything down, I had to re-ask it to shut off, and I left it stuck on the 'saving your settings' screen for 45 minutes before I gave up and unplugged it and took out the battery to shut it off completely.

This means, if it continues doing this, I could very well be without a computer for at least a couple of weeks while I try and figure out what's wrong with it.

And if it's trashed, it could be quite a while before I can replace it at all (I'm not counting on Dad to buy me a whole new computer, which is what would have to happen if I needed to get a new one, since my finances won't allow for even a cheapie $300 placebo unit until I could afford the upgrades in vid cards and the like so I could do things like WoW...).

BTW, Geekie, I did read your posts and I loved them...and would have said so this morning if the laptop hadn't decided to pull this. :)

Anyway, under our new management, I don't feel comfortable enough to get online at work (I'm praying under my breath ATM that this sign on won't get me in trouble...), so yeah, it may be a while before you guys see me anywhere online.

I'll keep you updated as I can. *hugs*.

Maintenance can't find the leak, but my rug is still getting wet, even with the fan on, so tomorrow when the office is open again, I'll have to let them know. The upside to this? Foot doesn't like the noise of the fan, so Ula's had more opportunity to come out and hang with me without fear of being chased as often. She's also learning where the food dish normally goes (in the kitchen), and since Foot isn't going there as often, Ula is getting more food...and Foot less (which Foot needs because she is starting to surpass the 'pleasingly plump' stage).

I hate paying bills, especially right now with as tight as everything is (yes, I know that's contradictory to the other night of 'lalalalala! I have money for WoW'). I got everything paid, and on time, but I'm eyeballing the little red line that's easily seen, although not crossed, in the checkbook. Mostly, it's because of cats, yearly car fees plus insurance, the final gasps of the $500 'oops', the last of the payments for the pictures I had taken of me (taken directly out of my paycheck), and cats again. But once that's cleared out by the middle of next month, I'm back to basic bills again until December (car insurance again, whee!), other than the WoW account. And I redid how I do my lunch budget, so that should be a $60-$70 per paycheck regain right there. Also, it'll be getting cooler again soon, so I'll be using the AC a lot less, which will likely half my electric. Every little bit counts, and summer tends to suck for most people financially, anyway.

Still haven't made any WoW characters. Been too busy with RL issues, but hopefully will get at least one up and going, if not this afternoon or evening, than tomorrow for sure.

Mostly, now that the bills are paid for this round, most of my stress is coming from the wet floor and the uber-noisy shop fan sitting ten feet away. I'd move everything into the bedroom and close me and the cats in (the door makes a good shield from the noise), but then I couldn't watch TV or play vid games (even though it is kinda hard to hear right now anyway). And the bedroom is kinda small to be spending all my time in there.

I just hope the noise doesn't do long term damage to the cats' ears (I'm leaving the bedroom door open just enough so that they can get in and out with no problem, but so that the door shields them from the worst of the noise).
