Hair Care, baby!
Hopefully Indy won't mind that I'm following suit here. :)
Anyhow, so when I got my 'extra' money, I knew there would be 'extra' and budgeted some for new clothes and just play stuff. Part of my 'play stuff' happened to be from Burts Bees.
I've been buying their standard lip balm for several years now, and started using the eye creme (which is also incredible, BTW) since June. But one of the things I got on this little spending spree has me squealing, so I thought I'd share. :)
What: Burt's Bees Avacado Butter Pre-Shampoo
It: 'Restores body, shine, and managability to dry and damaged hair.'
Further Hype: 'Excellent for both women and men alike. Makes a great styling aid, too!'
Also: 98% Natural Ingredients.
Cost: $9.00
Where can I find it?: Tom Thumb supermarket chain carries it. Several of the farmer's markets, out here in Texas anyway, carry it as well. There's also the online site, and I suspect they'd list their distrubuters somewhere. The company itself is located in Durham, North Carolina.
What's in it?
Vegetable glycerin, olive oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, oat flour, citrus rind oil (cleanser), lanolin, nettle leaf powder, quillaja extract, oat oil, chlorophyll and olive oil, rosemary leaf oil, tocopherol (vitamin E), fragrance.
What do you do with it?
Use before shampooing (That's the important step right there.)
Personal hint--comb all the knots from you hair ahead of time. It helps with this, or really, any hair regime.
Massage 1 tablespoon through wet hair, using a comb to distribute throughout. Wait at least 15 minutes. Rinse. Shampoo and condition as normal.
Texture:
Very thick and slightly sticky. You'll think you need more than the recommend dose, but if you use the comb, it gets all the way through. Long hair will probably require more, but the suggested amount covers most styles/lengths.
Scent
In Bottle: Predominently citrus, although I detected a bit of the oats involved as an undercurrent. I like it.
On Hair: It doesn't seem to have carried though onto my hair, although it smells 'clean', even after a day.
Ease of Use:
Very easy. Just measure out the right portion on your finger tips, spread a little, and then message into scalp and through the hair. It's thick enough that it won't go flying or drip out like a lot of hair products will. I didn't even need a towel to drape around my shoulders--just a hairband to keep my hair out of my face while I waited.
Plays well with others?:
I used Dove 'Cool Moisture' shampoo and conditioner after, and it doesn't seem to have hurt the intended purpose of the product, so I would say 'yes'.
End result:
Very smooth hair, no frizz or flyaway (and I usually get a little no matter what I use). Extremely soft to touch. No distracting or 'bad' smell. And, the best plus IMHO, my hair does not snarl very much at all afterward. As in, I can run a comb through my hair each morning with little to no resistance due to snarls and knots, which is a first.
Recommendation:
Think it would work great for most hair types, even thick. Not sure about coarse and/or extremely curly hair though--if anyone with those hairtypes would like to try it out and give a rec here, that would be great.
4 out of five stars (since I don't know if it works for all hairtypes).
