I've said it before, I will say it again...
This is not the way to protect your children.
You don't want them to have it, see it, hear it, feel it, like it?
Then get your nose out of whatever the hell it is you're doing that doesn't include taking care of your kids. Spend the time with your kids. Talk to them. Teach them. And stay open minded anyway. Get active in their lives instead of bitching about what other people are doing.
The government is not your babysitter, nor should it be your moral guardian. That's your own damn job.
Start doing it.

At which point, I want to take a large heavy stick to the back of their heads and start screaming 'WHY DID YOU HAVE KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE, THEN?! DID YOU NOT REALIZE THEY WERE WORK?! DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH NOT RAISING THEM RIGHT???'
/rant.
...Okay...yeah, it bugs me.
Both good parent and bad parent in my life were over-protective and constantly in my business. But you know what? That kept me on the right track. I don't get the parents now-a-days who just let the kids run wild...I really, really, REALLY don't.
(And then they're SO surpised when junior grows up to be a class a jerk and constantly in trouble...or else they deny it.)
Okay...someone stop me before I really do rant.

Re:
My parents were in many ways abusive, but what they did right they did right.
These people who can't comprehend of their children ever doing anything wrong make me sick.
These people who can't be bothered to pay attention to what their kids are doing make me furious.
