If Joe and Derek were real guys...
They'd be having a mechanic's heart-attack right about now.
So, finally got the oil changed, and the tranmission and radiator fluids checked out. (Mind you, this is after literally years of neglect thanks to household budgeting).
The radiator? In great shape (something I messed with myself at the beginning of the year, so go me).
The oil? Um...it had surpassed sludge and went straight for mud.
Transmission fluid? The stuff that goes in my car should be the color of Jun's tunic, right? (IE: Hot pink).
It looked like I'd been dumping my highly creamered coffee in there on a regular basis.
Yes, folks, it was light-freaking-brown.
We won't talk about the carbon flush...although I can say the old air filter was looking like hell.
My poor, poor car. And this is all standard car care I couldn't do before. Poor baby. :/ Very well made and fucking forgiving. Most cars would have done worse than blow their ECG valve if treated like this.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again; Never Again am I letting someone have that much control of my life, my things, and my money. Next person who tries can go fuck themselves with a knife.
*Goes and hugs her poor car*

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest you change your plugs and wires at the first opportunity as well. If the tranny fluid and oil were that bad, there's no telling what your spark plugs look like.

Yeah, all that's next on the budget. I ran out of a comfortable range of funds, but I'm planning on going back when the next check comes in. There will be carbon scrubbing-out, sparks, wires, plugs, belts, etc., and then I'll see what else the poor baby needs for the check after that.
There will be a ressurection for my poor beat up baby. Today though, she gets a bath (also something that didn't happen anywhere often enough).

Thank God you don't have an '88 Escort. My SIL had one and it threw up its little wheels and died in under four years.
Ford has really pulled its figurative head from its butt in recent years.

Yeah, I had heard about older models breaking down a lot--almost as much as the Chevey Cavalier. So when my dad and grandpa were 'how about an Escort?' I was all O.o.
Then again, I was bucking for a Saturn...which would have been MUCH worse if I happened to get landed with one that had break down problems, so...
My Ford has only had one truly major problem with it in all the years I've owned it, which is when the air conditioner unit imploded last year and sent bits of itself through the whole system. It took over a thousand dollars to replace that entire system. O.o
But other than that, two batteries, the ECG valve and the usual maintenance stuff, my car has been very, very reliable and cheap to maintain. :)
