And in this case, not only did they not use the characterization for the few RE canons that showed up, all of them were upstaged by a scriptwriter's original character, who proceeded to basically do all the bad Mary Sue things that drive even people who don't mind Mary Sues up the freaking wall (such as survive a bite and stay more or less human, gain regeneration even though she didn't get any of the downsides of being infected, AND developed telekenesis/telepathy when there isn't even a real case for either in the games other than the Plaga parasites, which were a whole different kettle of fish (and weren't in the movie at all) to begin with.
