1) Monsoon season, where you learn that your VW Beetle does, indeed, float when turning onto a totally flooded road.

2) Watching various newscasts of people being rescued from their vehicles (often the roof) after deciding that the warning about not driving into a flooded wash (yes, folks, even with a 2-ton four-wheel-drive monstrocity) wasn't meant for them.

3) Discovering bird-shit in the crook of a school-yard tree I was climbing, and the resulting exclaimation becoming a long-running in-joke.

4) Thunderstorms coming in from the south.

5) Car chases on Interstate 10--that started up in California and wound up near Tucson. There were betting pools for those days.

6) People betting on whether or not OJ would make it down our way during his car chase.

7) Davis Monthon Air Force Base airplane graveyard.

8) Having sex in the back seat of the VW Beetle. Yes, it can be done. Even with the seats upright.
