There's just something cool about getting to see an owl, even if it's five stories up from where you're standing.

Should have talked about this Monday, when it happened. But, you know, you get busy, you get distracted. And I'm bloody good at getting distracted.

Anyway, so it's 5am as I trot my way across the parking lot of the hospital and I hear the little guy hoot. Well, I stop, because I don't want to miss the next hoot. I rarely get to see owls, but I do hear them a lot, and it's a comforting sound to me even though it creeps a lot of other people out.

So I wait, closing my eyes so I can get a better idea of where he's coming from.

Well, he was extremely co-operative at that point, so it took only a short volley of hoots to get me to look across the street at the hospital, search the branches of the tree there, and then finally look up and beyond to the roof to find him.

Sure enough, there he was, hooting away. Must have been about the size of a small cat--so maybe he was a horned owl or a similar type....should probably go look it up although since it was dark, I'd still be guessing.

So there he sat, hooting. There I stood, watching, and appreciating him...and we were having a nice time of it--he even turned to look down at me while he let everybody know how proud he was of his corner of the hospital tower.

And then someone honked their horn as they sped by me (I was on the sidewalk and well out of the way of traffic).

Well, that was it for mister owl. Off he jumped, down he swooped, and away he winged into the night.

At least he gave me the final thrill of having him fly low over my head on the way out.

Too cool.

Tuesday when I left the new shop (Raven's Nest), as I was walking to my car which was parked at the end of theblock in a gravel lot near a small park, 3 bluebirds were sitting on the lamp posts by the buildings, and they flew along with me dipping and circling until we got to my car, and then they went on into the trees.

Made me very happy.
