Sugar cookies=Death By Yuck
Sep. 25th, 2007 08:05 amFirst cheetos, and now store-made sugar cookies are tasting really bad to me these days (someone offered me one and I took one to be polite). At least the one I had was actually deficient in sugar content (it tasted more like dough than sugar and vanilla), but even that amount was a warning that sugar overload (and the resultant tongue burn) was missed by a very narrow margin.
Some part of me is proud of my new intolerance for junk food...the rest is slightly mourning my childhood tastebuds. *g*
Ah well--the less I'm craving crappy food, the better.

Date: 2007-09-25 02:08 pm (UTC)It's still possible to eat strangely even if one is doing the so-called natural route, but there are things I wouldn't put in my mouth for love or money. It's been soooo long since I've had cheetos.

Date: 2007-09-25 03:01 pm (UTC)I can even walk into a 'fresh' supermarket deli or pass a fast food joint, appreciate some of the smells (most of them having to do with that 'grilled' smell--which is misleading), but the thought of actually buying something from those places gets an internal 'yuck' and a craving for some real meat/fish/chicken done on my counter grill instead. I don't even crave bread anymore, really, except for fresh french bread.
And even that gets a pass from me when I'm shopping.
What I'm still amazed by though is how my body actually craves healthy food over junk food when I have the choice (except, of course, chocolate). Which is mind blowing for me since for a good portion of my adult life, my diet wasn't the healthiest in the world. I was expecting to have a LOT more trouble staying away from junk, fast food, and starches, because I'm so used to eating them all the time. Or...I was three months ago, anyway. :)

Date: 2007-09-25 04:40 pm (UTC)It was like - I could eat two of those things in one sitting any other time, but then, I had to throw about 3/4 of it out.
Kind of makes you wonder what your poor taste buds go through 99% of the time but you don't notice because they're "used" to so much salt/sugar/grease/etc. and you don't notice the difference.

Date: 2007-09-25 04:55 pm (UTC)Your body builds a tolerance after awhile and learns to ignore the 'too much!' reaction of your senses. It was like when I lived with the ex--I got used to the cig smoke and never noticed it unless I was visiting my grandparents or someplace that's been equally smoke-free.
Once you've 'detoxed', though, you realize just what exactly it is you'd been ignoring from your senses.
These days, I pass by most smokers, especially after they've just lit up, and boy, howdy, can I smell it. :/

Date: 2007-09-25 07:07 pm (UTC)Oh yeah. The same way, after a week of nothing but water, soda becomes some sort of acidic bacteria bile compound. It's like, "holy shit HOW many of these did I drink in a day?"
