Date: 2007-09-26 09:15 pm (UTC)Richie's blues voice is better, for sure, but for me Jon will always be like woah.

Date: 2007-09-26 09:48 pm (UTC)Yeah. Jon and Richie together are just awsome and I would never, ever want that to change. As singing partners, those two were, uh, made for each other.
I think as soloists though, Richie wins my ear. Jon sounds too raw in the throat for me on too many songs (Blaze of Glory was the exception) on his solo albums to really appreciate it. Whenever a guy's voice starts to get too much growl/grate to it (or he starts yelling rather than singing, which Jon tends to do sometimes), I start wincing, because I can hear the damage he's doing to his vocal cords. Richie doesn't force himself that way.

Date: 2007-09-26 11:32 pm (UTC)Agreed. Both with that and with your analysis. Which is why I'd rather hear them together than either of them seperate, given a choice. One of the reason the band lasted to long I tink is because they all have something distinctive that makes it Bon Jovi and nothing else. With the exception of the bassist, I doubt they could get away with replacing any of the guys and still have it sound or feel the same.
I have everything except Lunar Eclipse. And...heh. I tend to skip songs on Jon's albums sometimes. Richies? I'm content to let it play through without reaching for the skip button.
I'm the same way with Poison vs. Motley Crue--There are days where I'll skip through half of Crue's stuff, but I rarely if ever want to skip through tracks on the Poison CDs.
I think it's also a matter of taste--I like music that's more...smooth? I dunno how best to say it. Jon tends to strip down a lot of his work. Richie winds up with a lot more backup as far as sound/instruments go...

Date: 2007-09-26 11:57 pm (UTC)OOooooooh. Thank you!
My VHS/DVD machine cna record DVD's...I;ve had trouble tracking down a copy of Homegrown out here. If I can get the thing to actually copy and then record it onto a blank DVD, would that hold you over until I find an actual copy?

I can't tell with a quick scan. I have a VHS anime though I want to get on disk, so I'll give that a shot on the next few days and let you know if I got it to work. :)
