The Eagle is back!

Back in 2004, Clearchannel (the bastards) had taken over 97.1 The Eagle and replaced it with 'Sunny'...which, for those of you who were around can recall, pissed me off. Not because I don't like things like Elton John and Christopher Cross (I do, actually), but because it was yet another station like that, in an area where a good rock and roll (nevermind metal) station is hard to find.

Well, when the soft rock/elevator music didn't do it for them, they replaced that with a spanish station (no problem there, except that there are already six other spanish stations that, quite frankly, do it better. And yes, I know this for a fact too, because I have two on my own radio after months of listening to all of them to find the ones I liked). So, finally, as of yesterday, they're back to their old format that the Eagle, and 97.1, had been known for for years. Dallas area metalheads and hard rockers rejoice! We have our station back!

Ooo, that may mean the Spanish station that did the same thing here with the oldies station may have done the same thing, because Clearchannel was behind that, too!

I think Clearchannel came into the radio business thinking to 'reform' the listener bases with their 'wholesome Christian values', and when they did, they messed with many stations in the places they took over in the hopes that the high dollar that was being brought in (and in the case of the Eagle, which has/had one of the farthest reaches in regards to listening area in the Dallas area) would tranfer over into the new formats. What they weren't counting on, I think, is that those channels, which already had their loyal listening bases, weren't interested in being 'converted'; either in musical tastes, or their 'moral' tastes.

Maybe, Clearchannel is wising up. Or just giving up on the 'wholesome' thing...at least until they start making money again.
