But...Your opinions on Oprah.

What are they? Say anything.

(and if you're wondering why I'm asking, it's because a celeb I do really admire has had dealings--good ones, as far as I know--with her. And I kinda do admire her in some aspects but am mostly 'eh' in others--probably because she seems to be everywhere.)

I catch all of that through news snippets here and there. What I honestly remember her for? Her performance in The Color Purple. She's a good actress.

She's into philanthropy, she's inspirational for people who are really into her, she covers everything from weight loss to surviving Horrible Things, I know it's a Very Big Deal if you get invited onto her show as a guest, and some of her things, like helping charities, are good, and then she'll go off on some weird tangent like a contest for getting a Really Expensive (I think it was a car?) Thing for a viewer, but I don't recall if it was something the viewer needed or was just one of those 'look, Oprah is generous!' things.

That sounded bad, right there, but for someone who isn't a dedicated watcher...that's kinda how it came across--more like a publicity stunt rather than an honest act of charity. I'm sure there was more to it than that, though. Someone else would have to educate me on that, though.

Which, actually, is why I'm asking. How much is genuine charity...and how much is...well...you know.
