When you start adopting the tactics of the enemy, you have already lost, because you have become the enemy.

When an outsider would not be able to tell the difference between the attitudes and actions of friends and enemies, it's time to rethink what you're fighting for.

Just something I've believed in and thought about for years. Some observations just drove it a little further home is all.

I believe this is situational. Certain tactics are acceptable to adopt, although one must be careful to not adopt the mentality behind said tactics, nor to compromise one's own integrity.

Unfortunately, most people are unable to keep the two seperate, and there-in lies the problem. It doesn't just get applied to a situation, but to everything, and most do not realize when that line has been crossed. And those are the people I am referring to. It stops being tactical and becomes personal, and usually when that happens? The best that can be hoped for is an endless repeat of the conflict, rather than resolution.

And really, that's not a very good result.

No, it's not a good result at all. A lot of times, the tactics of the enemy reveal their weakness, and using their own tactics is inviting defeat upon yourself. But as you stated, once it becomes personal, all bets are off.

We hate nothing in others so much as that which we fear in ourselves.

The true measure of a person, or a nation lies not in how they treat their friends, but in how they treat their enemies.
