And last post before bed time.
Feb. 25th, 2008 11:06 pmNoting that the wind is strong enough to make the curtains move, even with the windows and porch door completely shut O.o
Makes me glad these are brick and steel buildings.
Also, Dave? Map? Mrrrrr?
ETA: I have discovered that I can, indeed, alter the inside of the Factor's house in Morrowwind with the construction set program, which means I can stock and furnish the damn place the way I want. This makes me happy (especially since they did a crappy job of it originally).

Date: 2008-02-28 02:19 am (UTC)First of all, I think we need to nail down what the world's tech level is going to be like. As that will affect my ideas. What's the ratio of magic to science?
I'd really love to see at least some form of tech. Not very high, but like:
Trains
Lanterns
Clocks
Old style guns
Basically, nothing more high tech than say, steampunk.

Date: 2008-02-28 02:31 am (UTC)Yeah, that's about what I'm thinking...not as advanced as FFVII, but more steampunk, like you said, with the airships and stadiums (and possibly various odd inventions by Cid) being the 'height' of technological advancement.
Guns used by gunners are may as much magic based (for status effect attacks and the like), but otherwise pretty standard bullet-and-powder deals (no lazerguns thank you.)
I want to keep thigns like trains to a minimum as well--with Chocobos being a main transport (other than the old standby of feet), and possibly another mount-type creature. Maybe dragon riders if we want to nod to that particular game for 'fast' overland travel. And of course sail-run ships (some steam) for the oceans and rivers.
Maybe....D&D style world with steampunk touches? 70% magic/fantasy to 30% tech/science/steampunk. or 80/20.

Date: 2008-02-28 02:58 am (UTC)I really like the idea of dragon riders, too. Ditto on the guns with magice effects. I.E., a Bolt 2 pistol, something like that. though these would probably be reserved for military or affluent nobles.

Date: 2008-02-28 03:10 am (UTC)Yeah. If we get a gunner-type player (something like Vincent, Yuna in X-2, Irvine, etc), they'd have to start with a plain-old gun and earn the 'magical' ones. Otherwise, like you say, they're reserved for military and the really rich.
I'll review the dragon riders (wasn't that the default 'people' for the dragoons when they were introed? Cecil's game, IIRC correctly) and see what I can tool with that.

Date: 2008-02-28 03:21 am (UTC)Again, I agree with the gunner idea. That way not everyone is running around with them.
You are correct about the dragoons, and we should work out what their role will be. since that's kinda what I was thinking of playing. :3

Date: 2008-02-28 03:37 am (UTC)Yeah, exactly. You know there's gonna be folks who want to do the gun thing, but even with magic, guns tend to unblance things. Add their own effects in and...yeah. Also, where's the fantasy if no one is actually, you know, using fantasy weapons? *g*
Yeah. They were originally knights. Knights in common fantasy are of course the 'high dudes' of guards for the higher ups. In FF though they seemed to have had their own kingdom and society going. I guess that would be the first thing to work out: Are they their 'own people', the 'big guns' for royalty, or something else?

Date: 2008-02-28 03:49 am (UTC)Fantasy weapons should definitely be the staple, but most FF games always had guns in there somewhere, so hey should at least make an appearance, even if they're in NPC hands.
As for the Dragoons, I see them as being a small group, probably something to the effect of either elite calvary (if mounted), or possibly bodyguards for royalty/summoners. Another option would be to have them function as marines on airships.

Date: 2008-02-28 03:59 am (UTC)Yes. I don't intend to do awya with them completely, but I don't want the game to get over run with twinking, which can be easier with certain elements.
Why not all three? Maybe that's how this small group keeps themselves in money and supplies and the like? Their 'tradable' resource. Special ties to the dragons (as I get visions of both Pern and Eragon :P).
Of course, I'm also getting this cool image of a drgaon hangng out over the edge of an airship, curled up like a cat and watching the world below go by without having to work for it.
