I know how this works, so it really shouldn't upset/depress me, but 'Stroke Doctor Dick Day' does exactly that to me.
Yeah, that was a crude way to put it, but two days after being told our department had to cut 30 hours out of our schedule by the end of this month, I see a hospital-wide email going 'Hi, today is Doctor Appreciation Day and we're going to give them a luncheon!' (which usually involves a three to five course meal with things like filet mignon and lobster (!)), yeah, pardon me who's down here at $11.60 an hour and with possible hour cuts looming over my head if I'm not exactly thrilled about 'showing my appreciation' to them in the hallway.
They need another expensive lunch about as much as they need another yacht or vacation in the Bahamas (or whatever the 'hot' vacation spot is these days).
Okay, done bitching and now hauling my ass off to do my job...
And as a note after a few minutes--I know it's not the doctors, but the hospital that's putting a high premium on shit like this rather than on making sure their employees are well paid and cared for, but still, it doesn't help to know where the money 'they don't have' is really going after it's taken from us.

Date: 2008-03-28 12:29 pm (UTC)It's frustrating to be near/at the bottom of the food chain, barely able to eke out a living without stress, only to be told your company has no money for you -- and then see them dumping money by the truckload on something pretty trivial.
BlingBling once told the entire team I'm part of now to not work for the overtime.
Like he has any idea about our circumstances and/or how much we may need the money...'cause why would we be working OT otherwise for criminy's sake?!

Date: 2008-03-29 02:50 am (UTC)I like my job, and I do, for the most part (this whole BS with the teeth not-with-standing), make enough to sustain my lifetyle with a small but stable nest egg happily nestled away. I'm just disgusted by the whole 'Hi, we're in a recession!!!!' thing, and yet rich people still have money to spend...on other rich people.
And that...is anywhere in America, and not just where I work. Unfortunately. Welcome to Rome, circa the turn of the 21rst millenia.
