Is it just me?

silverthorneOr does anyone else listen to the new Motley Crue song If I Die Tomorrow, and feel that it's...lacking something?
I dunno...the first time I heard it, I liked it, but also didn't recognize it as a Crue song. It had that same polished, no flaws-so-that-people-can't-find-fault-with-the-newbie-band sound to it that I associate now-adays with the 'new, hip' groups coming out. You know, when the band sounds good, but it doesn't sound good because they have't the practice, experience, confidence, or life lessons and therefore emotion to throw into it just yet?
I didn't even really recognize Vince...I thought it was just the next generation of vocalists with that unnaturally high, whiny voice that seems to pervade the rock-music industry now (what happened to the rockers that actually had a voice? Oh, right...they're old farts now...I forgot...^^;). It worked when he was younger, but back 'then', the rest of the band was right there with him with full instrumentation--the guitars screeched as much as he did, and the drums could pound their way into your brain all by themselves. They all matched and complimented each other, rather than sounding like a whiny vocalist and his unwilling slaves.
Now, though, it's like everyone else took a tranquilizer...and the only reason Vince seems to be screeching is that somehow he must have gotten his lingham stuck in the fabric of his jockstrap. And even then, it isn't hurting very much apparently.
It just lacks that sort of gritty emotion that it used to have. Maybe it's because of all that rumored in-fighting...or maybe the guys have been apart so long they don't know how to work with each other anymore.
Or maybe, they're just too old anymore. Which is sad, since other groups haven't fossilized like this (Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, U2, Styx, Eagles, etc...)...
And I was so looking forward to it, too. :(
