I finally re-arranged the living room yesterday and went through the bookshelf today.
With the computer desk, I figured part of my problem is that the computer was facing the far corner in the living room--which has my back to the TV, the porch door, and a majority of the room. Which means I basically get no visual stimulation. Which is important for how my brain works when I'm being creative. If all I'm staring at is the corner of the room, I start to feel antsy and wanting to move around and look at moving things--not good if I'm trying to sit still and create.
So I turned the desk so that I'm looking straight out the porch door and only have to turn my head a little to see the TV if I want. It's also slightly rearranged so that there's a large clear surface that faces out directly over to the TV. So when I'm drawing or writing in a notebook rather than typing, I can just push the keyboard under the table and draw and be comfy at the same time. The seating nook is a little small, but I can get in easily, and once I'm seated, I don't need to move the chair around all that much. Foot likes the nook: it's small enough that she feels safe and hidden when she takes her evening nap.
I also switched the love seat and the recliner's positions, which is part of the reason I have less chair room by the desk, but I think it opens up the room more. It also gave me a chance to pull the art cart into the living room as an end-table for the chair, and with the desk turned around, the file cabinet fits nicely into the nook under the desk that's usually just empty space (and a good place to let your cat get tangled in computer cords) when the desk is turned into the corner properly.
I found several more books that I've figured out I'm not ever going to pick up again. I went through my old gaming books, too, but wasn't ready to either give up the second ed. D&D stuff, or to throw out the photocopies of things like the 'Arcane Arcanum' and 'The Manual of the planes', even though they're so outdated, that even if I did take up tabletop gaming again, I couldn't really use them except as reference. I also have a notebook full of old characters from Cthulu to the original WoD, a set of the Mekton II books and a notebook full of the campaign I designed and ran for the system back in Tucson. Since I can't bring myself to toss them all just yet, they went back on the shelf for the moment. Maybe next time I get the urge to clean stuff out, they'll go. As it is, that cleared another cart that I can now put in the storage shed outside to help start getting the stuff out there neatly on shelves.
Anyway, that was my weekend, and I feel a bit more settled.
