I love the beach, but you know, when they say 'riptides are bad today', at least when I lived there, people took it seriously and stayed the hell out of the water.

...this is like living in Tucson and watching the 'native born' drive their two-ton trucks into a filled wash and then being surprised when the engine floods and the truck starts to float down the stream with them stuck on top because the water is too rough to try and swim across.

Coney Island is so crowded in the summer, I doubt you would even see the sign unless your towel was RIGHT BESIDE IT!
