Why Build A Guild?
Oct. 21st, 2008 10:37 amI've gotten several invites to different guilds while I've been playing my main, which is cool, but I'll be honest in being reluctant to randomly accept an invite, especially from folks I don't 'know'. That, and I already know that how I play and how you're expected to play in the context of a guild doesn't jive. I don't mind helping out other players in a group when we meet on the field or in a quest area where there's lots of baddies and plenty of time when you just need that helping hand to keep from getting over-run by mobs. And what I do as a hunter solo just won't cut it within the context of a group, either because of how you're expected to play, or because my skills in certain areas (such as PvP) just downright suck--mostly due to reflexes, etc.
I'm also sporadic about play (which is true of any game I play). I have to follow a close knit schedule at work to ensure I get everything done, every day, no matter the load, in a timely manner. So when I get home on any given day, I like the choice of whether I want to play for a few minutes, a few hours, all night, or not at all. I really don't like tying myself into a group that wants to do raids Monday, instances Wednesday, Harassing The Other Side on Saturdays, etc. Not because I don't think it would be fun...but because I don't want to be that guildie that you have to toss a coin on to see if you can depend on them on any given day. I know it would annoy me if someone you depend on for raids or whatever has a good chance of not showing up on a whim, so I wouldn't want to do that to someone else.
By the same token, although most people are very gracious when I say 'Thank you, but I'm not interested', I feel bad telling the nice ones that...and irritated when I get some bork who won't accept 'no', keeps pressing for reasons, and/or gets a snotty attitude about it. :P
So...I'm half thinking of creating a vanity guild for my toon. Not because I need the bank space, but so that I can avoid those awkward moments.
Has anyone else done this, and for this reason?

But it comes down to whether or not you want to be bothered forever by other people who just shove their charters at you.
Also, I missed which server your main is on. And have you given any further thought to rerolling your Zangamarsh cow lady? We miss you over thar! :P

Date: 2008-10-21 05:09 pm (UTC)As for signing, I'd probably ask you guys and then go hit up the wow_ladies for the reaminder, since they're usually pretty down with creating an alt, signing, and then /gkicking themselves or deleting the toon once the deed is done. And yeah, it's mostly to get away from the people who are just randomly 'join my guild'! The nice ones I give an RP reason, which is that my toon doesn't want to join without her 'family'
With the not so nice ones, it's like dealing with a petulant child. One 'recruiter' yesterday just couldn't seem to grasp the concept that I simply wasn't interested. Another one got pissy and was 'is it because you don't like the guild name?'.
And I hadn't even looked at the guild name. :P That conversation got downright rude real quick until I excused myself and took off for parts unknown.
The only two guilds I even considered was the one I signed the charter on without realizing what I'd done (and was gkicked once I contected the GL), and then the guild of my new friend from the other night.
And he was very polite and gracious when I turned him down. And still had convos with me after, even when we were in seperate areas.
Arianthe is on Cenarion Circle, Horde side.
And yeah, I'm still mulling over whether to give it a few more levels or just go ahead and reroll as a hunter or druid. The connectivity problems haven't helped me get any more interested in trying it out, but I will be returning in some form or another once that evens out...with my luck, I'll finally decide to do it right when WofLK comes out and crashes the servers all over again. LOL. I miss you guys too. Anyada hasn't gotten to dance with the goofy elf and run around after the dead dude in a while. :)
