looks at last entry
You know, being a girl with tendencies towards depression anyway can really suck sometimes. And that's all I will say about that...
Finally got to see The Last Samuraii, and I have to say I was actaully impressed--no gushing rivers of blood, no obligatory sex and the like that's so common nowadays in American cinema...the 'hero' of the 'opposing' (read; Japanese) culture was even allowed the honorable and dignified death of his own culture instead of getting talked out of it by a well-meaning but completely misguided, 'evolved' American.
The culture was treated with repsect and portrayed accurately, and other than one bigoted and hard headed American asshole, there was no ultimatum of who is right and who is wrong culturally.
I can see where people hated it.
I loved it.
And for those of you who cannot understand why with all those mournful looks and needing touches Tom Cruise's character and the Japanese woman's c did not fall into bed in that scene, I feel really sorry for you. There was more romance and pure love in that scene than I've seen in most movies lately where the clothes come off, no matter the supposed time-period or locale, or how deep the feeling were between the lovers.
It was right, it rang true...and it was the only way for an honorable love.
It was perfect.
Anyhow, feeling better today, maybe a little snarly...but better.
Maybe tommorrow I'll actaully be sane again.
In the meantime, if you haven't seen The Last Samurai, go see it. It really is worth the viewing, and has an amazingly accurate view of the culture.
Just don't expect the Hollywood standard of blood guts and sex....;)
