I hate being a girl.

Also, for those of you that did NaNo...did you pull names out of your asses for the characters and/or place names? If you did, did you change or keep them once NaNo was over and you were writing/editing to make the story something worthy of the sight of others? Inquiring minds and all that (yes, I'm still working on it, although with as distracting as being around my family is, I haven't gotten far....but I'll still have 5 days more of vacation once I get home...).

You would have laughed had you seen my desktop two months ago. As I came up with character and place names, I would put them on yellow post it notes and place them on my desk. I combined real place names, stole locations from the Bible and juggled the letters, and even used the thesarus in a few places.

I do intend on changing a few names, though. Some of them sit a bit uneasily on me.

*nods nods* The character names I'm pretty happy with (even though I stole one of them from another character....oops). The place names though? Yeah. Um...you can definitely tell they were pulled from the nether regions of my arse brain...

When I failed at NaNoWriMo last year I gave all my characters two names so as to increase my word count.

LOL...I like that strategy! *g*

I fell roughly 20,000 short, but I'm still going to finish the story.

...and probably do NaNo again next year. Hopefully with a better game plan XD.

I might do it again sometime. This year was the running year and I didn't have time to do both and still keep my husband and kid.

*nods* yeah, I have a slight advantage in that way; no hubby, and the cats are happy with being able to cut off circulation to the body parts I'm not using to write with when they want 'attention'. As long as I make it to work every day, my evenings are more or less my own to do with as I wish.

I keep a name file for characters. Every so often, I go through old census records online and pick out any first names that catch my eye and add those to the file. It works great, and the stuff from the 1800s is usually the best for fantasy settings. I mostly stick to records from the mid- and deep- south, since that's where my roots are from.
