...so, let me get this straight. I'm the only one on my flist that really likes horror flicks?

That explains the lack of pals from horror flicks for my pup to play with.

I love horror movies but I don't grasp horror as a rper well enough to play it out.

((Oh so lazy--look, it's my RP journal!))

*nods* Yeah, it takes practice to play it well without going overboard or getting repetitive. You need to have something in between the horrifying parts or it just gets boring after a while. Makes me glad Derek has more of a life now than just 'gotta hunt the vampires'.

What I try to do is pull up how I feel when I watch a horror flick that scares/freaks me out/gives me the willies, and try to keep that feeling in the back of my mind while I write. It's almost like acting in a way--only you confine it to text and stuff while you're still drawing off of it. If the feeling you remember is matching the feeling you get when you've written something, then I figure you're doing good.

...Personally, I think I do an okay job, but not stellar.

I have a death phobia, as I've talked about on my journal, and it causes panic attacks. Horror movies = the bad.

Ah. I haven't really dug that far back into your LJ, so I didn't know. That makes sense.

...I thought Linda K. Hamilton was horror, though? Or is text not as bad?

Text is a lot easier. And no, she's atraight up porn anymore.

Back in the early books, the one's that Gabe comes from (Because, yes, he dies and dies early in her amazingly Sue series), it's mostly just fantasy humour/darkish tones but not totally horror.

Ah, okay. It's too bad about the porn part--it sounds like she had some great world building going on, from watching you guys play.

For some reason, I always get her confused with Tanya Huff, who also started a series about a woman police detective dealing with the supernatural. I only read the first book in that series, but it had a 'helpful' vampire in it, IIRC.
