Okay, this can come from either a writers perspective, or a readers, or both. And I would dearly love imput on this, so...

In your opinion...do you find you like a story where the inital conflict that sets the events of the main plot in motion are written about first, or do you prefer to start with the main plot and have the situations that led to it mentioned during the course of the story?

I'm having a little bit of trouble trying to decide where to start a story...I know the situation that sets everything in motion, how it happens, even bit of dialogue...however...

Although it would give shape to both the world and some of the characters, I'm afraid that it might detract by taking too long for the set up, especially since it is an event that happens several years before the main story. I would like the reader to know where they are and what's going on, but am also afraid of overwhelming them with information from the start...so...

What do all of you think? Any preferences? Any fantasy stories (other than HP and LOTR) that stick out as great as far as beginnings and presentation of present/past events? Any help would be appreciated...

Another 3 pounds have bitten the dust. :D

Down to 182, with the scale flickering down into 181. Only three more pounds to be my lightest adult wieght. Yay!!!!

^^

In other news, my project is going well. I haven't started writing the actual story, but am still working out things like the politics, some past history, the races and their roles, even silly things like costuming and architecture. Cool thing is, is that it's actually helping me redefine the plots, the characters themselves, and how certain interactions and situations will play through (or even how they're reached).

It's amazing how much can be shaped (or changed, in certain cases, since I'm cannibalizing several half-formed ideas, worlds, plots and combining them) by creating the world itself. It's even encouraged me to avoid the fangirl thing of insisting on keeping certain characters and situations the way they'd 'always had been', and instead putting them through some major overhauls so that they actually fit in and work well with the story.

This is, I think, a good thing.

Well....Mate has the vid game, which left me to draw :D

The first one is of Johnny...for those of you who actually read the (abandoned) fic awhile back, you might remember him:

Typical of his kind to hide his eyes )

The second one is definitely inspired by the hours both my mate and I have spent playing Morrowind--there's a reptilian race known as Argonians...So I just had to get out my kingsnake book and make a reptile man based on my favorite serpents...:D

Willowthorne--Too cute IMHO )

Well, thought I would share this...when I posted it on one of the Yahoogroups RPG's I was in, the other players really liked it...don;t know if you guys would agree, but hey...that's all right.

Once it gets into the story telling part, I tried to imitate the same style of story-telling the Native Americans use a lot of times when they tell stories...some people like the style, some do not.

I didn't edit it, so I apologize to those who beta...as far as I know, the punctuation is correct for the writing style though...^^;

Anyhow, enjoy if you're inclined to...and FB, good or constructively critical, is welcome...

Not exactly fanfic...just the junk that clutters my mind from now and then. Feel free to FB me somehow, although I won't promise this will ever see a finish (although I'm more likely to work towards one if I know I actually have an audience.). Characters, plot idea and so forth are actually my own brain-child, although I cannot take credit for the creation of Tucson, Arizona or the insufferably cute Gamble's Quails that live there. Those are all someone else's fault **Looks skyward** Anyhow, enjoy..........
