I was gonna take pictures
Mar. 1st, 2008 02:54 pmBut I figured that taking pics of the dragons last week was weird enough, so I'm sparing you guys the plant-folk pics.
But I am happy (and hopefully my plants are as well). Did some plant food stuff, got some 'new guys' settled in their first home pots, and then rescued (or tried to) three plants I already had that had been over-run by some sort of white soil fungus that has the consistency of dust-laden spider webbing (like the kind used by wolf spiders). I have no idea what that shit is (other than BAD FOR MY PLANTY BABIES), but I dug everyone out, knocked as much dirt off the root balls as I could, and put them all in their own little separate pots with all new, fresh potting soil.
...Does anyone know what that fungus shit is, BTW, and if there's another way to get rid of it without uprooting everyone? And what might have caused it? None of it was on the plants, just the soil.
Anyhow, the new guys (all one inch babies right now) were a ficus ivy, a croton 'bush', and a 'lucky' bamboo. I have to go get some potting rocks for Mr. Bamboo. For right now, he's in his original pot, still hemmed in with that sponge stuff they use at the store, and probably displeased with this arrangement. Although he is already putting out new shoots, so he can't be too unhappy, but still...
I also started two small seed trays--one with basil, sage and thyme, and another with moonflowers and alyssums. I suspect I won't do as well with the flowers, but am going to give it a shot anyway. One never knows, after all.
Anyhow, yeah, these are my 'living' pets, since I'm not allowed to have rodentia (the best pets to probably have in my current apartment, considering the size it is), and I'm not quite financially ready for another cat or two. So, right now, it's green pets. :)
