Pro-ana comms seriously scare me. Reading post after post of 'I only ate 200 pounds today and I feel so fat' or 'I was 105 and am now up to 110 and oh god I'm gonna kill myself for being a fat pig (and the girl is 5'.7")' just creeps me out. I just cannot imagine living my life like that. I like food too much. I like my sanity too much. I value my health too much. I feel bad for these girls, because it isn't just a phase for them or not understanding that those ultra-thin movie stars they see everday only get that way due to lots of money and, in all honestly, surgery (if they don't suffer EDs themselves). I simply could not get myself into that kind of dark space and be able to call it 'good'.

I have Teh Ebil in my house. On the recommendation of a friend, I bought two very small fresh yams. So here's the question...what does one do to very small yams (and please no sweetened/maple/brown sugar recipes--that's what got me to the point of gagging on yams whenever I started eating them in the first place).

The Second Coming of Teh Ebil is also in my house--it is known as whole wheat/oat grain bread and organic, must be refrigerated, but at least it only has 50g of sodium in it, peanut butter. And I had a sandwich for dinner. And it was good. And filling. Especially when followed by steamed broccoli, cauliflower, asparagas, and carrots. I may have to do it again tomorrow night.

Tonight was The Night Of Chopping. All veggies have been chopped, and made ready to go, and in the case of two 'dishes' (the summer salad I make, and the bell pepper mix for eggs and other things that are in need of grilled veggie sides), prepared for easy grab. I even have everything but the milk in my cereal ready to go for morning. All I have to do is roll out of bed, get dressed, grab fud, and run for it. This means there may be a 40 minute sleep in. :)

There are also chips, salsa, and crackers in the house again. Those are for The Dad, although I have sampled a couple each of the wheat thins, triscuits and corn chips (The salsa thus far has stayed sealed). :) The Dad will be well fed. I am well stocked with food. Now all I have to do is find out what he wants drink wise and try and get a few cans of it into the fridge to chill before Wednesday afternoon. :)

Water is still my best friend.

And I really need to bounce on the trampoline.

Having seen my best childhood friend, whom I've known since I was five, degenerate into a 75lb anorexic mess and get shipped to Utah for rehabilitation twice... just... wow. And being a student of human anatomy, physiology and overall health, I CANNOT understand why people starve themselves.

It's such a vicious cycle. They feel they have no friends so they starve themselves to be thin and cool. And it works, for awhile, until their 'cool friends' realize what they're doing to themselves, ditch the anorexic and then said anorexic is back to where they think they started, with no friends, while they alienate those who cared about them the entire time.

I have a cousin who managed to get the double-whammy of anorexia and bulumia. Sometimes she'd binge/purge...other times she'd just not eat at all. It was her way of trying to get control over herself, the things she hated about herself, and her surroundings. She wound up in the hospital four different times, and once got commited. It's been several years now, and she's as 'healed' as she's gonna get, but there are times...

It really is a fucked up mindset. :/

Yeah, this girl had bulimia as well. It's so scary. ;~;

Also, on a completely different and happier topic, here is a good sweet potato/yam recipe (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_8764,00.html)!

That looks good! Thank you. Now there will have to be decisions made...or else I will have to get more yams if I decide I like them after the first recipe. ^^

I vote for you trying that recipe first. Even twigs and acorns are palatable if roasted with olive oil, rosemary and garlic!

Have you seen Thin (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0492496/)? I netflixed it a few weeks back. It's seriously creepy. Those girls have way bigger problems than I do.

Yams/sweet potatoes go well with curry. Cube, then boil, then sprinkle with curry powder. Eat alone or with rice or as a side dish with something else such as turkey or ham.

Yams/sweet potatoes with marshmallows or maple sugar = BLEGH ARGH BARF.

I have not seen it...I will check it out, but I suspect it will freak me out fairly quickly.

*makes notes on a third recipe to try. :)* Thank you!

Yeah. Unfortunately, the sweet dishes is what's traditional during x-mas with my family. :/ Everything other than the yams I normally like anyway, but the combination was just one of those things where my body went 'you know, this is so much too much of a good thing that I'm just not gonna do it'. My family thinks I'm a freak because of it (I'm the only one that doesn't like yams. XD )

Ooh, they don't serve you canned yams, do they? Because that's just evil.

*hiss*

Okay, now much is explained.

...Only thing sorrier than canned yams are canned potatoes.

Well, I used to use canned potatoes in soups and stuff. :)

But yeah...canned yams are gross. At least fresh ones have a decent texture.

Best thing to do with yams? Seriously, poke em with a fork, nuke em until they're al dente, peel the skins off, and eat em with margarine. No seasoning needed, cos YUM!

Oooohhhh fourth recipe, and good for those nights when I'm 'I'd like to forget I actually know how to cook now'.

*adds to cookbook* *hugs* Thank you ^^

(Also? Third Dad visit in 6 months! Dude, I've officially seen him more this past year than I have in seven! O.o)
