silverthorne: (Dark Neon Flame)

First thought: Alice is just too damned 'special', espcially since she pretty much takes away anything any of the canon characters could be doing to save the day. Someone needed to give her the Mary Sue litmus test, I think, before they approved the script. Or not bother with including canon characters.

Second thought: It should have been Claire and not Alice.

Third thought: Claire and Jill kicking ass together would have been awesome.

Fourth thought: The third movie is so far removed from the original intent of the games that I just don't register it as RE material.

Fifth thought: As it is, I'm not really watching RE, but it does make for good background noise while I work on the computer. Which is really why I keep the DVDs around.

Sixth thought: I need to pop in #1 and get my ass whupped a few times this weekend. :) Anyone want to take bets on how many times I die at the hands of the first zombie before I manage to kill it or run like hell? (Also: Chris or Jill, guys?).

Those movies might have been psuedo-entertaining if he hadn't slapped the RE label on them. I'm sure that Paul Anderson ruins stuff on purpose. Like, he says in the interviews that he's all into the games. How the hell can you be into the games and not even know who the characters are?

On the second point, take Jill if it's your first run-through. She has a starting pistol, lockpicks, and can carry more stuff.

Yeah, that's what my problem is. As a kick-ass female-who-gets-fucked-over-mutates-and-saves-the-day movie, its a good ride. But if you're expecting RE, it's like a cocktease. And it's worse when they start throwing in canon character like Jill and Carlos...and them make them essentially non-effective in comparison to Alice, where-as in the games, they can at least wipe their asses on their own (and a hwole lot more if you get them set up right).

I'll give Jill a shot then. My biggets problem is getting my fingers to be able to switch angles and directions with the camera. Half the time I turn to run, I turn and then back up into what I'm running from. Ditto for trying to shoot things. It takes me a bit to get my brain working right for the controls.

Have you seen the 3rd one? ;_;

I have all three (got the pack used for something like $8 and figured 'what the hell'). And yeah, I was just completely 'WTF IS this shit?'.

Also 'that's NOT Claire. Where's Chris. Jesus, why do they have that telekenesis/telepathy shit going on'. And so forth. First one I could stomach because at least everyone was 'normal' in that. The second was pushing it, especially after Jill got relegated to psuedo canon fodder. The third one just peeved me off.

Exactly. It stops being survival horror when you can regenerate and have psychic powers.

I liked the movies, but, I don't play the games.

If I'd never played the games (or seen them played by ex), I wouldn't have minded the movies as much.

But...it's like comparing a certain 'star' to the way a certain player played her. If you've seen the original, the borrowed one at best leaves you with a 'wtf?' feeling and at worst furstrates the shit out of you because it's just so damned wrong in comparison to the book or movie.

*nods*

I get that.

It's...why use the character if you're not going to use the characterization?

Exactly. And in this case, not only did they not use the characterization for the few RE canons that showed up, all of them were upstaged by a scriptwriter's original character, who proceeded to basically do all the bad Mary Sue things that drive even people who don't mind Mary Sues up the freaking wall (such as survive a bite and stay more or less human, gain regeneration even though she didn't get any of the downsides of being infected, AND developed telekenesis/telepathy when there isn't even a real case for either in the games other than the Plaga parasites, which were a whole different kettle of fish (and weren't in the movie at all) to begin with.
