So, all right, dropped by the cafeteria to grab a bowl for my cereal, walk outside, spy a dead bird next to the sidewalk.

Right-o. Get back to area, call Engineering/Maintenance. Got the supervisor. (Will not go into how much of a waste of skin this guy is, and how much the whole hospital knows it.)

Anyhow, conversation went something like this:

Me: Hi, this is Anne from receiving. Just calling to let you know there's a dead bird out by the outdoor cafeteria area.

Him: What?

Me: Dead bird. It's right next to the sidewalk.

Him: And?

Me: Thought you might want to know.

Him: Why?

Me:....Just so you do know. Thanks.

Him: Okay. *hangs up*

...

'Why'?

uh, let's see...

Maybe so that you'll have someone from maintenance and who has the proper gear on go pick it up before someone pitches a fit over it?

It's also:

Sitting two inches from the sidewalk--some patient or guest is bound to see it (I noticed with my glasses off). Often, this will be a patient or guest that will, oh, I dunno, get upset by seeing it?

Also, one of those guests JUST MIGHT be a child...and children will touch anything if you let them. Including dead birds.

It's in the outdoor eating area. Can we say health hazard.

Bird flu. Biohazard. Must I say more?

That's just the first three reasons I can think of.

The guy is a moron.

If it was anywhere else, sure, there wouldn't be a problem. But--it's a hospital. HELLO.

Exactly. (Although I would be leary of a dead bird anywhere, but that's just me).

What's sad is that this guy has been with the company for roughly 15 years. You'd think some common sense would have rubbed off on him by now.
