Dear PETA

Why yes, I am appalled by the pictures of cats and dogs crammed into cages, supposedly in China, for the sake of being killed and/or skinned alive for their fur. Yes, the pictures upset me greatly. Yes, I would like to help pass legislation to end such things.

Except, I don't live in China.

and, I don't approve of your 'sophisticated investigations, public education, effective publicity and sustained pressure on all animal abusers'.

Quite frankly, I rank your 'excellent work' on about the same level as Shock Jocks--effective for the reactionary and uneducated, entertaining and or/fucking annoying to listen to for the rest of us, at best, but never to be taken seriously (and in some cases, should be removed from public eye ASAP).

We won't even go into the irony of you trying to 'save' animals' lives in another country, when your kill rate for the ones you 'rescue' in your own country of origin is 90% or better on any given year. These aren't even the ones you fail to save in your various 'campaigns'--they're ones other people willingly handed over to you, and that you intentionally killed rather than investing some of that donation money into caring for them and getting them adopted out.

So yeah, don't think so. If I'm going to give my money to a charity dedicated to the 'saving' of animals, I have several other choices that I can and do go to. I know they, at least, are actually putting at least some of the money toward, you know, saving animals' lives, passing laws, and supporting humane legislation rather than wasting time into shocking the general public into giving them money for, oh, I dunno, red paint and rotted meat to throw on people and giant fucking freezers to store all the dead animals you 'saved' in years past.

Fuck off and die in a fire, and do not ask me for money again.

Sincerely,
One very cheesed off animal lover.

Besides the fact that PETA thrives on insane, batshit stunts, there's this to take into consideration.

All I have to say is D: !!!!

I found this article interesting.

I like the idea that the houses are going to a charitible cause.

By the same token, it brings up the question: Is this just another form of gentrification?

Hmn...

Stamp Out Hunger Saturday May 12

Y'all don't forget that tomorrow is the day the US Postal Service is collecting canned goods for food banks nationwide. Many needy families have it worse May-August, because the kids aren't getting their lunches at school, and food banks traditionally get fewer donations this time of year than at the holidays, and supplies are often low.

So, count your blessings, go root through the pantry and see what you can spare, stick it in a bag and put it by the mailbox.

And pass it on.

Fud, dudes! Share! *g*

(A suggestion for those of us in places where canned goodies by the mailbox may not be such a great idea--if your local PO is open, why not just motor it on down?)
