You know, there are times that I mourn my procrastination and excuses for not packing my bags and heading for Hollywood as a young girl. I had skill, talent, at the time knew who to talk to and where to go.

And then things like this happen, and I'm reminded of why I'm glad I didn't go after all.

Between the actual conversation, and then having it bounced all over the place, that poor kid is going to be scarred for life. Granted, this doesn't just happen in Hollywood (I should know; my own mom was infamous for those kinds of tirades)...but still. The family and people who should know won't be the only ones knowing...

Voicemail Rant Reheats Alec-Kim Feud

LOS ANGELES - The festering bad blood between movie-star exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted Thursday when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public. On the recording, Baldwin can be heard berating his 11-year-old, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig."
"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.

"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."

The recording was published by celebrity news site TMZ.com, which said that the call was placed on April 11.

Baldwin's spokesman said in a statement Thursday that, "in the best interest of the child," the 49-year-old actor "will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing ... keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," the statement continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."

"The voice mail speaks for itself," Basinger's spokeswoman said.

Calls to Basinger's and Baldwin's attorneys were not returned.

Baldwin and Basinger, 53, were married in 1993. They have been involved in prolonged legal disputes over custody and other issues since she filed for divorce in 2001, which was granted in 2002. The couple's differences have been aired several times in public.

Basinger was charged with contempt of court in October for violating terms of a 2004 custody agreement. A motion by her lawyers to dismiss the charges was denied Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

Yeah, he's a total jackass. That's not Hollywood; that's just him being a dick. That's downright mild for him, actually.

Well, yes, the actions are his and his alone...but the spreading of it is the paparazzi element, which is unique to Hollywood and entertainment media (you don't see anyone nationally broadcasting, say, the next door neighbor doing this unless it ends in a spectacular death or other unignorable result). And a lot of times stuff like this gets spread just for the exposure. 'Any exposure is good exposure'. The stars that stay out of it are the ones that live like hermits, and work hard to keep it that way. And in their case, any mistake they make within view of media is put up for all to see, and to me, that's just as bad as the actions themselves (Such as JBJ giving the double bird during a football arena game when the opposing team scored a goal against the Soul. Yeah, I was aghast at his reaction...but by the same token, does the rest of the world really need to know that occasionally his 'nice guy' rep is a little tarnished?). I get the 'you chose to be popular, here's the price'...by the same token, I don't think it deserves to freedom to put everything people do up on display.

In this case, jackass or not, the rest of the world didn't need to know about it--the right people just need to remember it to do the right thing in regards to their daughter now that they have proof of what he's like.
