Last night wasn't too bad at all. I managed to arrive ahead of the rest of my department (and that was with them having rented a room there, too), but found a few folks from the computer geek end to hang with until they showed up. It was a 70's thing, and some of the get-ups were hilarious (I just dressed nice. :) ). But man, BRIGHT. Hee.
I actually spent dinner next to the big department boss (the guy I used to dread), and we actually had several mini-convos during dinner. He had this fringe jacket that he actually got in the 70's on, and every time he reached for something, it would get into stuff. I wound up being his fringe holder, and teased him about it, telling him that he needed an assistant, and that he would have to move to Hollywood, because he was too high maintainance. That made him smile.
After dinner, I wound up sitting there for a little bit (*knowing* people is not the same as hanging out with them. I know half the people at the hospital thanks to my job--got LOTS of hellos and hugs, but...). Anyhow, boss guy rescued me by telling me about the little card packet we got, which included a voucher for the gambling tables they had (yes, there was gambling...but not with real money XD). So...I parked myself at the roulette wheel.
It took me two hours to blow everything, and the only reason I did at that point was because I was ready to go, so I stuck all my chips on two spaces that didn't get picked. :) What was cool was one of the ladies from Lab and her husband joined me at the table, so we joked and rubbed shoiulders and stuff for that evening.
I didn't dance (not good at it, and...um...I was wearing heels. Bad combo, even when I'm sober! XD ), but the old music was fun. Lab lady and I were 'Oh, I remember them playng this in gym during dance classes' and stuff with some of the songs...lol
Anyhow, not too bad at all, although I think I need to either work on my in-work social network, or start finding a few more friends within distance that I can drag to these things. Or something. *g*
