Actually it was a timed event. It lasted for a week and it was progressively getting worse and worse until it got to where I could infect someone and in a minute they would turn into a zombie, but every time I hit them it would take off 10 seconds. But, all good things must come to an end and a cure was found and the zombie invasion of 08 ended.
I was given the impression from various posts in the WoW communities that it was originally meant to last until the end of October, but they shortened it to a week after they got so much 'negative' feed back...
Either way, I'm sad it's gone. It added an extra sense of urgency for me, which I liked. :)
