Date: 2008-10-29 04:00 am (UTC)Am I the only one that gets a kick out of bosses overkilling me? Once, in Tempest Keep, Kael'thas hit me with a fireball that crit for 40,000. Another time, in AQ40, C'thun lightning bolted me for 6.5 million. My response was "OMG THAT WAS AWESOME! DO IT AGAIN!"

Date: 2008-10-29 11:00 am (UTC)(Seriously, it's gotten boring without all the 'AHHHHHH ZOMBIES ATE THE (Insert essential NPC here)' and "WHO WANTS TO GO INFEFCT SOUTHSHORE???" convos. Sadly, it's given way to Obama and McCain bashing. It's like, dude, I play to get away from this shit. Shut the fuck up'.
That, and I miss having to run for my life when exiting a city by chicken, or arriving at my destination and hitting the ground running just in case there's SCOURGE RIGHT THERE OMG!!!!
(Yes, I have a weird idea of 'fun')
ETA: Typing without coffee is a bad idea. :/

Date: 2008-10-29 11:12 am (UTC)Unfortunately, a lot of people complained because they had to do things like run from ravaging hordes in nomarlly 'safe' cities, and a lot of the zombie willing would over-run important city hubs and kill NPCs, which are needed for things like trade, selling, and getting/turning in quests.
Which I understand on one hand--it's a pain in the arse to have to dodge the zombies when you don't want to get involved (and some players don't take 'no' for an answer), but by the same token, there are ways around that. There are other things you can do, and if all else fails, well, the infection lasts only so long--it does eventually kill you (I think it was down to 4 minutes or something like that), and if it doesn't, someone else, either player or NPC, probably will. So even if you get roped in, all you have to do really is find someone to kill you, and you'd ressurect as a living being again. And even if you have a group of people who are insisting on camping out a whole town and keeping it infected for as long as possible, you always have the option of going to another city that isn't currently over-run to get your things done.
Personally, I really didn't want to get into the zombie invasion part by getting infected--I'm trying to finish a series of quests so I can move to a new area--but I found ways to have fun with it by playing 'zombie invasion survivor'. Used all my talents to check out areas ahead of me, scan places I wasn't sure of, figuring out the timing of when and where exactly to run for it if I had to pass a knot of zombies, etc. And if I got really tired of dealing with the zombies in the area, I'd go out into thw wilds and hunt critters for food and for skins to sell once it was safe to go back into town. :)
Of course, now they took it away because enough people were upset, so...now it's kinda boring going into town, and I'm disappointed by that.
ETA: I should note the NPCs respawned as well after you killed them, so it's not like the city invasions would permanently destroy a player's ability to use that city. You'd just have to wait for the invasion to end and everyone to respawn. And there are plenty of bored high level players in eahc city that they'd typically make short work of the invaders anyway.
