Here's a step in the right direction...

Of course, get this gem (quoted from the article):

The bill's chief sponsor, Rep. Ron Hood, contends that children raised by gay parents face increased risk of physical and emotional problems. His concerns are shared by many conservative groups which argue that same-sex partnerships are less stable than heterosexual marriages.

No shit. You think?

Ever occur to you the reason behind that is because you try to get legislation passed that essentially states 'the general public thinks this lifestyle choice is wrong and we will do anything to stop it'? Or that same-sex relationships fall apart a lot of times from sheer social pressure?

No? Hmn. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Not only do same-sex partners have to deal with ALL of the usual marriage problems (without any of the governmental benefits, either--like, say, TAX BREAKS--that hetero pairs get, or legal recognition, like having a legally acknowledged marriage), but they have to deal with harassment, constantly changing laws that usually end up in worse shape than when they started, harassment, losing their children and livelihood if the locals don't like it, harassment...

I said that already, didn't I?

Anyway--point being--of COURSE the relationships aren't as stable--there's incredible outside pressure for it NOT to work.

Try actually supporting the lifestyle just like you do for hets...bet me it would settle down into the same stats for 'things going wrong' once all the extraneous pressure is gone.

But hey, what do I know, right?

Oops...I'm on the soap box. XD.

Anyhow...good going on the adoption people.

BAD legislator. Get with the program.

same-sex partnerships are less stable than heterosexual marriages.

Um, have these people checked the stats on the divorce rates in this country? And how many hetero couples have horrid relationships--that negatively affect their children--and never get a divorce?

Weak, weak argument, if you ask me.

BTW--how's it going? Long time no type. :)

No, they either haven't checked the stats, or don't care. What matters to them is that the lifestyle 'unsafely' challenges their comfort zone and personal opinions in regards to relationships.

There isn't really much to be done, either. They're pretty set in stone as far as 'tude goes. Even if you presented the facts to them, they would at least try to find a way to counter-act them. Denial can be a very powerful force when wielded with EBIL intent well.

And yeah, hey there. Long time no see to you too. ^^

I've been around, getting myself together and just having a blast in places other than the old. Sadly, most of my online LJ time has been given (along with my soul) to one favored pup. He even has a paid account where-as I don't! LOL.
