Just because...

Just a short blurb.

Harry Potter
Four Houses
Four elements

Speculation (of course completely off because I doubt Rowling has more then a cursory sense of 'magical' theory...^^;

Gryffindor--Fire
Slytherin--Water
Ravenclaw--Air
Hufflepuff--Earth

Keeping in mind that most pagan 'traditions' think this way, or very closely to it:

Fire--Red--Action (sometimes healing) associated with Solar symbols

Water--Green--Emotion, subtlety, associated with Lunar symbols

Air--Blue--Mental facilities--magics that are closer to Eastern philosphy's

Earth--Brown (or really any color associated with 'earth tones')--Healing, balancing, stability...

Just a thought that crops up from time to time...

Yeah, that's the way I'd sort them into the elements, too.

The whole Gryffindor-Fire thing really gets re-enforced too, between Harry's actions, Ron's temper, and of course, Goderic's sword (which a lot of paths assign as the 'tool' of choice to use in the direction of South/Fire. (I think that tends to be influenced by the Tarot suits...)

Of course, that's interesting too....

Fire-South-Sword
Water-West-Cups (Chalice--Potions, anyone?)
Earth-North-Pentagrams (Seals and the like)
Air-East-Staves

I've also seen staves placed in the south/north directions
Swords for Air
Arrows for Air...

Hmmm...guess it depends on the path and the relational tendencies of each practitioner...

I'd have placed fire with wands/east, and air with swords/south. (I suppose it doesn't matter really as long as you get where you're going!)

But then there's Godric's sword :o) And remembering JKR probably isn't pagan and didn't research pagan practices for the HPverse...though I think Albus' Fawkes goes well with Gryffindor-like tendencies.

I do like the Potions/Chalice link - Slytherin would often be represented by the reverse chalice, I imagine, lots of hidden/concealed emotions.

Hey, I'm glad you got your networking sorted :D
